Clergyman proposes naming state edifices after Ghanaian heroes

Kumasi, Dec 19, GNA - A clergyman has proposed the naming of state edifices and streets after heroes of the nation as a way of appreciating their contribution to development of the country.

Bishop J.N.K. Boateng, Founder of the Gospel Revival Church of Christ, said such an honour should benefit only Ghanaians who have contributed positively to the liberation of Ghana and the development of the nation.

Bishop Boateng made the proposal when he addressed the closing session of a two-day crusade held by the Gospel Revival Church at Sofoline, in Kumasi on Sunday.

He cited the international airport of the country that, he said, could be re-named after Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana. Bishop Boateng said it was difficult to understand why streetlights in Kumasi remain lit during the daytime.

''The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly is always quick to provide street lighting system but finds it difficult to monitor and switch off such lights during the daytime.''

"The mercury bulbs being used for streetlights have a high voltage and consume a lot of current, hence the need for such lights to be switched off during the day time.''
