Clubs asked to undertake regular clean-up exercises

Kadjebi (V/R), March 21, GNA - The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kadjebi, in the Volta Region, Mr Kofi Adjei Ntim, has called on members of various associations, especially youth Clubs in the area to lead their communities to undertake regular clean-up exercises to inculcate hygienic culture into the people.

He promised that the Assembly would provide logistical support for groups that would initiate programmes aimed at ensuring good sanitation in the area.

The DCE was addressing members of the Sankofa Club in Kadjebi after he joined them in a clean-up exercise in the town on Saturday, to run-off the 47th Independence Anniversary celebrations. In another development, Mr Ntim presented a quantity of walking sticks and clutches donated by the City of Alkamande in the Netherlands to disabled persons in the area.

The District Environmental Officer, Mr Lawrence Afeavo, said currently, there were about 200 members of the Clubs, formed in basic schools in Kadjebi and that more clubs would be formed in the communities.

He said to ensure collaborative development effort between communities in the Kadjebi District Assembly and the African Centre for Human Development, a Dutch development organisation, the Sankofa Programme was formed about four years ago.

Mr Afeavo said under the programme, community youth projects, including resource libraries and parks are been provided and the district had benefited from a donation of a quantity of refuse containers and implements to promote sanitation in the area.

Mr Afeavo said the programme had also led to the formation of Sister City relations between Kadjebi and Alkamade and a two-year exchange programme of visits by opinion leaders from both towns.

A four-man Dutch team had recently completed a week's visit to the area while other visits are slated to come off in June and October, this year.
