Two brothers were trapped to death, while three others, including their parents, sustained serious injuries, when their building collapsed on them at Wanabenya, a farming village near Amanase in the Ayensuano District.

The deceased, Bright Okobeng, seven, and his brother, Joseph Quaye, five, have since been buried, after autopsy at the Suhum Government Hospital.

A family spokesperson of the deceased, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, 12 people, including an old woman, Maku Awoyo, aged 120 years, have been rendered homeless, and that some are putting up with relatives, while the rest have left the village for Amanase to stay with friends.

According to the family head, Opanin Samuel Okobeng, there was a five-day continuous rainfall in the area on September 22, which resulted in many rivers and streams overflowing their banks into the houses on some residents, including that of the deceased.

He said, the parents and the family members of the deceased were asleep in the night when their building collapsed on them.

The wounded were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital where two of them died, with the admission of the three who sustained serious injuries.

Opanin Okobeng commended the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ayensuano, Mr. Mike Ofori Darko, for visiting the village to express his condolences to the bereaved family, and assure them of the assembly’s assistance.
