Collins Dauda Dismisses Nationality Issue

Fri, 16 Apr 2004 Source: --

The Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the opposition NDC, Alhaji Collins Dauda has dismissed claims by the deputy minister of Interior, Thomas Broni that he is not a Ghanaian. ?I was born Ghana and the laws of this country qualifies me as a Ghanaian?.

The ?troublesome? NDC member was born on 13th February 1957 in the Brong Ahafo Region of the Republic of Ghana. Alhaji Dauda however admitted that his grandparents are Burkinabe nationals. It is unfortunate for Thomas Broni, a deputy minister who is supposed to know better to make such irresponsible allegations about me when he has not taken the time to find out about where and when I was born and the laws governing the citizenship of Ghanaians.

Alhaji Dauda was a Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC but lost the Asutifi South seat in the 2000 election. Alhaji Dauda was speaking on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo today. The deputy minister, also speaking on Peace FM insisted that Alhaji Dauda is not a Ghanaian and urged him to apply for a Ghanaian citizenship.

Mr. Broni said Alhaji Collins Dauda is not going to win the nationality case if he doesn?t go according to the rules. The deputy minister according to Alhaji Dauda is doing what he is doing because he wants to contest the Asutifi South seat which is currently being occupied by Mrs. Cecilia Amoah of the NPP.

Everybody in the constituency knows that I am going to win the seat in the December election because the NPP MP has failed to bring development to the area and Mr. Broni is doing everything to halt this possibility, ?but I am not deterred by this political tactics?.

Chapter 3, clause 6 sub section (1) of the 1992 constitution states that every person who on the coming into force of this constitution is a citizen of Ghana by law and shall continue to be a citizen of Ghana.
