Takoradi, July 31, GNA - Fifty commercial vehicle drivers from the eleven districts of the Western region on Thursday, attended a road-safety training programme at Takoradi to update their knowledge in driving.
They were taken through traffic regulations, accident prevention and first aid at the programme organised by the National Road Safety Commission, the Regional Road Safety Committee and the Road Transport Coordinating Council.
Mr. Ofosu-Mensah Gyeabour, Regional Police Commander noted that the rate of road accidents in the region were still high in spite of programmes to prevent their occurrence.
He attributed the high rate of accident to human error on the part of drivers because they did not take road safety education seriously.
"It has been identified that one of the major contributory factor for the high accident level among commercial vehicle drivers is their poor level of skills and knowledge". He appealed to the public to help to check the rate of accidents in the region.
