Accra, Dec 15, GNA- The President John Agyekum Kufuor has directed the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, to reactivate the committees sitting in the Northern Region to consider applications for creation of new district.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Issah Ketekewu, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development. The statement said owing to the conflict situation in some districts in the Northern Region particularly Dagbon area, the committee set up to work on the creation of the new district could not sit in the region. The President appealed to the chiefs, elders and people of the Northern Region to exercise maximum restraint and to cooperate with the committee when members visit the region.
