Ho, March 1, GNA - The Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) is to set up a committee to resolve the problem over the location of the district capital of the newly created Adaklu-Anyigbe District. Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, gave the hint when a delegation of Chiefs from Ziope traditional area led by Togbi Binah Lawluvi VI, Fiaga, called at his office to congratulate him on his appointment.

The Ziope traditional area is one of the three traditional areas making up the new district, which also includes Agortime and Adaklu traditional areas. The tussle between Adaklu and Kpetoe over which of them was entitled to host the district capital had held up the inauguration of the new district.

Mr Dzamesi said the stalemate over the capital had held up funds specifically meant for infrastructure development in the new district not to talk of funds from the District Assemblies Common Fund, which other new districts were benefiting from. "Right now a new tractor meant for the new district is lying idle at the Residency", he said. He said the Region was already lagging behind in terms of development and there was therefore no time to waste but to seize every opportunity to quicken its pace of development.

Mr Dzamesi said the government would stick to its agenda for development in the Region, which would not be altered by considerations of the lack of support for the ruling party in the Region. He called for total co-operation from the Region in pursuit of the government's development programme for the area. Mr Dzamesi thanked the delegation for its visit and said it would help to bolster his enthusiasm and confidence to do his best for the Region.

Togbi Lawluvi said Ziope's main concern was to see the new district take off irrespective of where its capital was located. He said the developmental needs of the three traditional areas were enormous and expressed the hope that the committee would resolve the impasse quickly enough for the district to take off. He was optimistic that the Regional Minister would bring his experience as a former deputy Regional Minister and youthful energies to bear on the affairs of the Region and help quicken its pace of development.
