Accra, Sept. 25, GNA - Two communities in the Bolgatanga District in the Upper East Region on Monday appealed to the Government to support them in their quest to provide electricity to their part of the District.

The communities are Zaare, Yoorebiisi and Gaabiisi. Mr Bismark Ayorogo, Secretary of the Zaare-Gaabiisi Youth Association, made the appeal at the Association's meeting in Accra to discuss how to raise sufficient funds to facilitate the completion of the project.

Mr Ayorogo, a student of the University of Development Studies, said the communities needed to generate 250 million cedis through contributions and communal work for the project.

He said Mr David Apasera, Member of Parliament for the Constituency, supported them with seven million cedis. He said Mr George Gambson, assembly member for the area, offered two million cedis while elders of the communities have contributed five million cedis. Mr Solomon Akakiya, chairman of the Association, said 54 low-tension poles and more than 8,000 metres of cable were some of materials needed for the project.

He called on all citizens of the two communities and other benevolent organisations operating in the area to assist them to complete the project.
