Communities urged to undertake more self-help projects

Donkro-Nkwanta (B/A), Dec 1, GNA- Benjamin Adu Darko, Assemblyman for Boabeng-Fiema Electoral Area of Nkoranza District Assembly has urged community leaders to organise the people to undertake self-help programmes to improve their living conditions.

Mr Darko, who is also the Circuit Supervisor in-charge of the Dromankese Circuit, was addressing a meeting of the staff and executives of the School Management Committee (SMC) and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Donkro-Nkwanta local Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Donkro-Nkwanta.

The meeting was a follow up to the findings of a three-member inspection team from the district office of the GES, which toured the school recently.

Mr Darko announced that the Nkoranza District Assembly every year, allocate about 500 million cedis in support of community self-initiated projects. He therefore advised the people to take advantage of the allocation to develop the area.

He called on teachers to eschew negative practices such as drunkenness, lateness, absenteeism and laziness warning that recalcitrant teachers would be penalised.

Reverend Canon Robert B. Num in-charge of the Donkro-Nkwanta Anglican Church, said the only legacy parents could bequeath to their wards was education.

He advised parents not to lavish on frivolous things. Rev. Num deplored the poor and low standard of female education in the area and stressed that the people should take the campaign about the girl-child education serious.

Headmaster of the School, Mr Isaac Owusu Sarpong complained of accommodation for teachers and advised the authorities to address the problem.

Mr Joseph Amo-Kwao, Circuit Supervisor of the area who presided advised parents to share ideas with teachers to encourage them to perform well.
