Senya Beraku (C/R), Dec 30, GNA - The Awutu Senya District Coordinat= ing Director, Mr Musah Foko, has called on parents to use their limited resources to groom their children rather than on things that would not brin= g them progress. He said this when he inaugurated nine Community Child Protection Committees at Senya Bereku in the Central Region. The formation of the committees was facilitated by Rescue Foundation Ghana, a child advocacy non-governmental organization. The functions of the Committees include monitoring of children who hav= e been rescued from child labour and are attending school, creating awareness and sensitizing the people on the effects and dangers of child labour, enforce child laws, liaise with the District Assembly to conduct programmes on child labour and child protection.
Mr Foko said parents should ensure that their children acquired knowledge and skills that would enable them to be productive. Mr Foko later sworn into office the committee members and urged them t= o work hard.
Mr Oscar Agbotse, the District Deputy Director of Social Welfare, appealed to the committee members to discharge their work without fear or favour to protect the children and also bring to book people who are involved in child labour and trafficking. He appealed to the citizens of the area to cooperate with the committees to protect the children. Mrs Sylvia Hinson-Ekong, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, appealed to the members to discharge their duties in accordance with the laid down regulations.
