Mpobi (Ash), Oct. 25, GNA - The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) is training District Education for All (DEFA) teams in budget and resource tracking to be able to track educational resource including the capitation grant. Mr John Kwadwo Owusu, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the Coalition, who gave the hint, said the tracking and monitoring of educational resources was to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
He was speaking at a durbar to educate parents on their role towards the success of the capitation grant, which would enable the nation to achieve its aim on education for all by 2015 at Mpobi in the Kwabre District on Wednesday. It was organised by the GNECC.
Mr Owusu said the grant aimed at ensuring access to schools, quality education and supporting poor families and above all to ensure that pupils were able to put into practice what they learn in school. He said the Coalition was advocating with the government to provide the necessary incentives to teachers to support the grant so that they gave off their best to assist the children to acquire quality education. The Regional Coordinator emphasized that the development of education in the country had reached a period where the government alone could not handle everything and it behoved other stakeholders to network with the government to provide quality education. Madam Regina Adusei, District Girl-Child Coordinator at the Education Office who deputized for the District Director, noted that the grant had contributed immensely to the development of education. She stressed the need for parents to endeavour to provide the basic needs of their children since the grant could not cover all the charges on education of the children.
Madam Adusei expressed regret that most girls hardly went beyond the JHS level and said this must be halted since girls who reached higher level of education played meaningful roles in families and in nation building.
Nana Birago Ababio, Queen of Mpobi commended the Coalition for supporting the government to develop and improve education, which was the key to success in life.
She called on the parents to have positive ideas on their children and assist them to develop their talents so that they could become useful citizens. Mr Stephen Amankwaah, head teacher of Mpobi JHS complained of inadequate chairs for the children at the kindergarten level and urged parents to support the school in the proper upkeep of the pupils.
