Community angered by indiscriminate sale of reserve lands

Nsuta (Ash), Aug 19, GNA – There is growing anger and resentment among the people of Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District over what they say is the indiscriminate sale of open spaces and reserved lands in the town by the Omanhene, Nana Adu Agyei Bonsafo.

They alleged that school parks and sanitary sites had all been sold out to developers.

At a public forum organized under the auspices of the district assembly, they appealed to the District Planning Authority to make sure that no physical development was carried out without its approval.

They said everything should be done to restore some level of discipline and sanity to the town – the district capital.

The Omanhene was not present himself at the meeting and his representative, the Saamanhene, Nana Appiah Dankwah, refused to be drawn into the land issue.

Mr Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong, District Chief Executive (DCE), called for restraint and assured the people that the planning authority would act firmly to ensure proper management of lands in the district.

They would insist that land administration laws and regulations are upheld without compromise.

Mr Afoakwa Sekyere, the Presiding Member, expressed concern about the situation where some chiefs and family heads make their own layouts without recourse or authorization from the district planning authority.

This was unacceptable and would not be allowed to continue, he added.

He expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the forum and said similar ones would be held at Kwamang and Beposo traditional areas to sensitize the people on building laws and regulations.

Among the large gathering were sub-chiefs, assembly members, youth organizations, heads’ of department, town council members, security agencies, traders and farmers.
