Gomoa Debiso, Aug. 14, GNA - The Gomoa Debiso community in the Gomoa West District have appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to reconstruct a bridge over the Awombrew stream between Gomoa Tarkwa and Debiso to facilitate movement of people and goods to Dawurampong market. Nana Badu Attah VI, Tufuhene of Debiso, said this at a meeting with Mr. Francis Kojo Arthur, Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District Chief Executive and Mr. Robert Dei-Kumah, Feeder Roads Engineer, on Thursday. Nana Badu Attah said the road, a major access route for over 15 communities to the market at Dawurampong, could not be used after the collapse of the bridge about 20 years ago. Since then, he said, Gomoa Tarkwa, Techiman, Eshiem, Abodom preferred going to either Agona Swedru or Mankessim for trading instead of to Gomoa Dawurampong.

Economic activities in the area have suffered a great deal, Nana Badu Atta said, and added that life would be restored when the bridge was reconstructed.

Mr. Arthur recounted the importance of the road some years past when he was a pupil in the area and expressed worry that past governments could not rehabilitate it and allowed it to deteriorate. He assured the people that he would take up the issue with the ministry to ensure that their request was met. Mr. Aidoo-Mensah said Dawurampong market was strategic in the economic development of the district and that he would ensure that problems that militated against its development were removed. He said the assembly was being assisted by the Urban Poverty Reduction Project to develop a market at Gomoa Ankamo and appealed to the people to patronize the facilities and also to pay their tolls for the district to generate revenue.
