Community appeals to GES for female teachers

Bepoase (E/R), Aug. 7, GNA - The People of Bepoase, near Begoro in the Fanteakwa District, have appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post female teachers to the area to serve as role models for their female children.

They contended that, at a time that the education of the girl-child was being stressed, it was imperative for female teachers to be posted to the rural areas to inspire the girls.

The Assembly member of the area, Mr Kwabena Asare, made the appeal on Friday at the inauguration of a six-unit classroom block for the local primary school at Bepoase.

He said no female teacher had been posted to the area since the opening of the school several decades ago to motivate the people on the benefits of educating their female children.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe-Ceasar, who inaugurated the block indicated that the assembly was in the process of putting up teachers' quarters in the area to facilitate the posting of a female teacher to the area.

He told the people that as stakeholders in education, it was the responsibility of both the government and the community to provide the needed facilities for the school while parents provided the basic needs of their wards such as uniform and food and reminded them that failure to execute that responsibility was a punishable offence on the part of parents.

Mr Ofoe-Ceasar warned that the assembly would take disciplinary action against any teacher caught drunk on duty as a measure to improve the standard of education in the area.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Kwadjo Agyei-Addo, asked the people to cultivate the culture of maintenance to enable the building to last.

He suggested the formation of a district school maintenance committee embracing representatives from the parent teacher association (PTA), the chiefs and the assembly to be in charge of the maintenance for all school infrastructure in the district.
