Assin Afaw, C/R, Feb 18, GNA- The Chiefs and People of Assin Afaw have appealed to the government to help connect the area to the national electricity grid to facilitate the establishment of small and medium rural industries.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Assin Afaw, Nana Kofi Damtse, Regent of the town, said the people through their hard work and communal spirit have moulded 49 concrete electricity poles and called on the government to come to their aid.

He noted that even though the MP for the area, promised that the government would connect the area to the national grid, nothing had been done.

The Regent also urged the authorities to construct a school in the town to save school children the trouble of travelling about seven kilometres everyday to attend classes at Fanti Nyankomase. He said apart from the long distance, a school in the town would encourage more children of school going age to enrol and promote education in the area.

The Chief appealed to the Assin District Assembly to provide the town with a place of convenience to ensure environmental sanitation to ensure good health.

He also appealed to the Department Rural Roads to rehabilitate feeder roads to facilitate the evacuation of foodstuffs from the hinterland to the marketing centres.

Mr S B Acquah, Chief Farmer, disclosed that the mass cocoa spraying exercise had not been effective in the area since the spraying gang visited the area once and appealed to the authorities to ensure that it should be made effective when the exercise commences.

The Queen mother of the town, Nana Kwantsiwaah, asked the Assin District Assembly to extend the poverty alleviation financial assistance to women in the area to help improve their living condition.
