Abura-Obohen (C/R), March 27, GNA - Nana Nyanfu Kwegyir X, Dentsihene of Abura Dunkwa Traditional Area has called on the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate roads in the Abura-Asebu Kwamankese District to make transportation and foodstuffs in the area easier to enhance business activities of the people. He said transportation in the district had become very expensive since a number of roads had deteriorated making life unbearable for the people.

Nana Nyanfu made the call at a durbar of chiefs and people during the Abura-Obohen annual Easter Akwanbo festival. He mentioned that the roads that link Saltpond to Abura-Obohen and from Abura Dunkwa through Odonase were all in deplorable conditions and had not seen any major rehabilitation for years. Nana Nyanfu advised the people to unite and plan development programmes in their respective areas and appealed to the authorities to expedite work on the extension of electricity to the communities. Nana Egyir Opusuw, Gyasehene of Abura-Obohen, also advised the people to be careful with the HIV/AIDS because it is real, and advised the youth to abstain from premarital sex. He urged the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Mr. Andrew Mensah, Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu Kwamankese, explained that government's development programmes were being pursued in accordance with a well-drawn plan and assured the people that they would not discriminate against any community. He said it was for this reason that the government had, over the years been trying to implement a systematic programme of improving the infrastructure base of the country. Mr. Mensah gave the assurance that the government would not abandon its rural development policy and would pursue it even more vigorously than before to ensure a better life for the people. He said all development projects in the district were on course and that contracts had been awarded for the connection of all communities to the national electricity grid.
