The chiefs and people of Banka, a predominantly cocoa growing community in the Asante-Akim South District, have hailed the government for the start of construction works on a Day Senior High School (SHS) in the town.

It is among the 200 being built across the nation to provide access to education.

Mr. Kwadwo Shaibu, a former assembly member, said already the project had given jobs to the local people - employing more than 50 men and women.

He summed up the joy of the community when he told the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. De-graft Fokuo, during an inspection tour of the project, that they were already enjoying some economic benefits.

Business activities in the area had picked up as household incomes increased, he added.

Mr. James Wereko, the Site Supervisor, gave the assurance that the four-storey building would be ready within the scheduled period of 18 months.

They were making good progress and did not anticipate any delay.

Mr. Fokuo expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of job done by the contractors and urged that they did everything to meet the timelines.

He reminded them to use the appropriate buildings materials and in the right quantities to make sure that there was value for money.

The DCE encouraged the people to show ownership of the project by giving every needed support to the contractors.

He repeated the government’s determination to make education accessible to everybody.
