Community leaders asked to stop engaging the youth in conflicts

WA, Oct. 5, GNA - Naa Seidu Braimah, a Member of the Council of State, has appealed to leaders of communities where conflicts are rife to stop misdirecting the youth towards acts of destruction and chaos. He said the progress of the nation was being drawn back by allowing young people to engage in atrocities that the government eventually had to resolve through the use of meagre resources. Naa Braimah said this at the 26th annual national rally of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders' Organization at Wa at the weekend that was held under the theme: "peace and reconciliation an imperative for national development"

The three-day rally attracted adult adherents of the faith from all regions of the country and took the form of prayer sessions, recitation and translation of Arabic poems and verses from the Holy Koran, speeches and sermons by eminent Ahmadiyya Muslim scholars. Naa Braimah appealed to Muslim leaders and elders to assist the authorities in resolving chieftaincy and land disputes that are threatening to tear several communities and in some cases families apart.

Maulvi Wahab Adam, the Ameer and Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, urged Ghanaians to be tolerant and show mutual respect despite their ethnic, religious diversity and political differences. Ghana, he said, was fortunate to have many civil society organizations and religious bodies that are working towards building peace and fostering reconciliation among sections of the society. Mr. Mahmud Khalid, the Upper west Regional Minister, commended the Ahmadiyya community for its interventions in the education and health sectors and that it was a demonstration of their commitment to develop the people both materially and spiritually. 05 Nov 09
