Two projects – a mechanized borehole and washrooms for a basic school, built at Ahansoyewodea, a farming community near Obuasi, at a total cost of about Ghc100,000 have been inaugurated at a ceremony at Ahansoyewodea.

Funded by CHASE Petroleum, a multi-national company, the projects are to tackle the perennial water problem faced by the population, to reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases and to help improve sanitation in the local school.

Mr Dan Amoah, Managing Director of the company, said it formed part of their corporate social responsibility.

The company, he said, has over the years provided safe drinking water for people at Gaani, Kongo, Nakpanzo, Karaga and Siliga, all in the Northern Region, as well as Jata Akura and Atta Akura in the Kintampo District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

He said it has been the policy of the company to share whatever financial gains they make from their operations with communities with special needs, and the focus has been in the health, education and water sectors.

He appealed to the people to show ownership of the projects by making sure that they were properly handled and maintained.

Mr. Edward Ennin, Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi East, applauded the Company for the intervention, and said it has brought a big relief to the people.

Nana Ntisem Ababio, chief of the town, said the water and sanitation facilities had been major priority needs of the community, adding that, he could not find words to express his personal joy.

Madam Fautina Amissah, the assembly member, appealed to CHASE to consider further assistance, by way of building a new kindergarten block to replace the old and weak structure.
