Nkonya-Tepo (V/R), June 16, GNA - Mr Solomon Donkor, the Jasikan District Chief Executive, on Thursday called on farmers in the district to organize themselves into groups to enable them access funds. He said the government was leaving no stone unturned to assist formers to produce more to feed the nation.
Mr Donkor was addressing a one-day workshop organized by the Needy Club of Ghana, an NGO, in conjunction with Dizengoff Ghana Limited for farmers at Nkonya-Tepo on Thursday. He appealed to farmers to organize themselves into cooperative groups to enable their district assemblies and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to assist them to access loans from the banks to expand their farms.
Mr Donkor appealed to traditional rulers to release land to the youth to stop them from leaving for the urban areas for non-existing jobs. Rev William Kwame Carr, Chairman of the Needy Club, expressed the hope that vegetable farmers in the area, who were taught the technique of modern vegetable production, would increase their production. Mr Franklin Senyo Mensah, of Dizengoff Ghana, educated the farmers on the use and application of agro-chemicals. The participants were also taken through bookkeeping and management.
