Mamponteng (Ash), May 22, GNA - The Wadoma Group of Companies, producers of non-alcoholic beverages in Kumasi, has instituted a scholarship scheme for 100 primary school pupils in seven towns in the Kwabre District.
Under the scheme, children who excel in both classroom and external examinations will have their school fees paid up to the senior secondary school (SSS) level.
The towns where the 100 pupils will initially benefit from the scheme this year are Mamponteng, Ejuratia, Mpobi, Hemang, Aboaso, Ankaase and Abrade.
Presenting a cheque for five million cedis to the beneficiary pupils at a ceremony at Mamponteng at the weekend, Mr Kwabena Adom, Chief Executive, said the company had started from the primary school and hoped to extend it to the JSS and SSS levels.
He said the scheme would be raised to 10 million cedis next year to motivate the children to take their education seriously. Receiving the cheque, Reverend Samuel Affainie Amankwa, Kwabre District Director of Education, was optimistic that the scheme would go a long way to reduce the anxiety of parents to provide quality education for their children.
He stressed the need for individuals and non-governmental organisations to support education since the government alone cannot offer resources for quality education. Rev Amankwa commended the company and added that his gesture served as motivation, which others must emulate.
