Nkwantakese (Ash), Nov 2, GNA-A traditional ruler has called for the strict enforcement of regulations on the construction of houses to ensure that all houses are built in conformity with the regulations. Nana Owusu Afriyie, the chief of Nkwantakese in the Afigya-Sekyere District of Ashanti, who made the call, said this will not only save communities from the hazards associated with sub-standard buildings and un-coordinated planning but will ensure good drainage to reduce communicable diseases associated with bad planning.
He was speaking at a durbar held by the people of Nkwantakese in honour of a 50-member Netherlands volunteer team who helped in the construction of 10 estate houses in the town estimated at 80 million cedis.
The volunteers, who are members of Habitat for Humanity International, an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) which helps in the construction of residential houses for poor communities, spent two weeks to help construct the houses. Nana Afriyie entreated the volunteers to help hasten work on the town's clinic so as to save patients the agony of travelling the long distance to hospitals.
He charged the beneficiaries to take good care of the houses by maintaining them regularly and also asked them to contribute towards the development of the town.
In appreciation of their support, Mr Sander Smits Van Oyen, leader of the volunteers, was installed the "Nkabomhene" of Nkwantakese under the stool name, Nana Kwaku Duah I.
Mr Oyen expressed the gratitude of the volunteers to the people of the town for their co-operation in the execution of the projects and the honour done him and promised to assist the town when the need arose. 02 NOV. 03
