Zebilla (U/E), Dec. 6, GNA - A consortium of development partners have pledged their commitment to the speedy development of the Bawku West District. The consortium comprises non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including World Vision, Technoserve, SEND Foundation, Ibis West Africa and CODI met in Zebilla, the Bawku West District capital, to brainstorm on the way forward for the relatively new district. They noted that government support for most of the new districts, especially those in the Upper Regions, was barely enough with much of the development activities being supported by NGOs. They said plans for decentralized departments are either not executed or ineffectively implemented due to financial constraints. They reiterated their commitment to the speedy implementation of development programmes in their areas and urged the government to support the decentralized departments adequately to enable them to function effectively.

Areas the NGOs are involved in include health, education, agriculture and income-generating activities. Each of the NGOs earmarked specific communities they would be working in so as to avoid duplication and the overlapping of activities. Mr. Vincent Adzato-Ntem, District Co-ordinating Director, commended the development partners for their commitment to the welfare of the people of the area and urged them not to relax. 06 Dec 08
