Constructional works on MAKROSEC ICT centre begins

Odumase-Krobo (ER), Feb. 8, GNA - Government's drive to extend the world- wide-web to deprived second-cycle institutions for accelerated development was on Tuesday given a major boost, following the commencement of constructional works on the 600-million-cedi Manya Krobo Secondary School Information Communication and Technology (ICT) centre on Tuesday.

The school thus, becomes the first of 138 senior secondary schools and 10 teacher training colleges nationwide, slated to enjoy the facility under a Ministry of Education and Sports and the Tauspie Intercontinental Public-Private Partnership Agreement. Under the agreement, the Tauspie is to pre-finance the projects. The district assemblies of beneficiary institutions would be expected to bear some of the cost of the centres, which had been designed to comprise two halls each with the capacity to house 25 computers, as well as stand-by generators and internet connectivity. Presiding over the ceremony, the District Chief Executive for Manya Krobo, Mr David Sackitey Asare, described the project as "a major breakthrough" for the school and the district in their quest for development.

He said the imperatives and thrust of modern development dictates that no country could divorce itself from the 'global village' era in her development drive, since ICT now affected all aspects of the human life, including the conduct of business. Mr Asare said under his charge, the Assembly would pursue a human resource development drive, aimed at equipping students in the district to be computer literate to meet contemporary global manpower requirements.
