A group of Christian and Islamic clerics within the Ashanti region have sent a strong message to the Electoral Commission.

Storming the Ashanti Regional EC office on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the religious leaders and their followers urged the Electoral Commission to continue their good work with courage.

Flying the skies with Ghana flags amid chanting of peace songs, over five hundred religious persons walked through the principal streets of Kumasi, starting from the forecourt of the Opoku Trading.

While the Christian believers were mostly led by clergymen, the Islamic group was led by imams, with the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, at the forefront.

They also pledged their support for the EC both spiritually and physically.

Presenting their statement to the Ashanti Regional Electoral Commission office, Reverend Dr. Enoch Kwabena Nketiah, one of the conveners of the coalition, said they were united under a common purpose to show their unwavering support for the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

He also expressed firm belief in the credibility and integrity of the electoral officials, adding that their collective actions as discerning men of God exemplify their commitment to safeguarding the democratic values that Ghana holds as a star of Africa.

Expressing great hope in the values the EC holds in our democratic principles, the spokesperson further declared their trust in the EC's ability to execute its constitutional mandate without fear or favour.

"The Electoral Commission is at the forefront of our democracy, bearing the immense responsibility of ensuring the will of the people is freely expressed and accurately reflected," he said.

The Reverend Minister further disclosed that they stand solidly behind the EC in all endeavours, urging all political actors and citizens to do the same.

On his part, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, said they were solidly behind the EC in all its endeavours, urging the EC to professionally deliver its mandate without fear or favour.

He further urged all Ghanaians to desist from beating any war drums since the country was never ready for such happenings. "We all preach. But one thing we must take notice of is that we can't preach peace while others beat war drums. We pray against that," he said.

Receiving the statement, the Ashanti Regional EC director, Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah, thanked the Coalition of Religious Clergymen for their unflinching support and good advice to the Electoral Commission.

On behalf of the region, he pledged the commission's commitment to execute their mandate professionally and promised to ensure that their good message reaches the national EC boss.

Lastly, a prayer on certain specific topics was said for the Electoral Commission at the Ashanti Regional office before departure.
