Conversion of KVIPs to WCs posing health problems.

Dadieso (W/R) Sept.14 - GNA - The conversion of KVIP toilets into water closets (WCs) in some towns in the Aowin-Suaman district has compounded the problems of environmental sanitation in these communities. Because of the high cost of dislodging the WCs, they have been left unattended to for many months, and as a result, some people have resorted to the use of open places such as the markets, school compounds, river banks and outskirts of the towns as places of convenience.

This came to light when a team of environmental officers led the Ghana News Agency to inspect some of these public places at Enchi, Dadieso and Akontombra-Nkwanta on Friday.

They said the improper disposal of solid and liquid waste continue to be a major source of worry because of pollution of sources of drinking water to most people in these communities.

They said incidents of water-borne diseases have been reported in some of these towns and called on the district assembly to help curb the situation before it gets out of hand.
