Coronavirus: Deputy E/R Minister donates 3 nebulizers, 100 sets of items to 31 electoral areas

Deputy Eastern Regional Minister continues to exhibit continued commitment towards the fight against the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal with ongoing awareness creation, education and the donation of assorted covid19 relief items.

Samuel Nuertey Ayertey who is also representing the New Patriotic Party as its Parliamentary Candidate in the 2020 general elections presented 100 sets of coronavirus prevention items and three nebulizers to three major hospitals in the municipality.

The Deputy Minister and aspiring Member of Parliament, supported by the MCE, Simon Kweku Tetteh, Constituency and Polling Station Officers, presented the items including 100 sets of veronica buckets with stands, tissues, liquid soaps and hand sanitizers to the 31 elected assembly members and 31 party coordinators to support the members’ respective efforts in their electoral areas with each electoral area receiving three sets of the items.

Mr. Ayertey also presented one nebulizer to each of the three major hospitals in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality for the treatment of asthmatic patients and those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among others.

The three hospitals are the Atua Government Hospital, Akuse Hospital and the St. Martin De Porres Catholic Hospital.

In addition, the deputy regional minister also presented ten(10) gallons of liquid soap, two(2) gallons of hand sanitizer, tissue papers, five(5) Veronica hand washing buckets and five(5) waste containers to each of the three hospitals.

He said the gesture was to support the facilities and communities to fight the pandemic, adding that the hospitals are expected to be equipped with other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be used by front line health workers in the coming days.

He commended the hospitals for their efforts so far in combating the disease and urged them to remain focused.

The Parliamentary Candidate while recalling the genesis of the pandemic said the virus which was hitherto “very far away” was now with us.

He charged the assembly men and coordinators to identify hotspots in their respective electoral areas to place the buckets for easy access by the community, adding that the intention is to ensure that the handwashing and sanitizing spots were in every corner of the municipality.

To him, the virus does not know one’s status which is the very reason all must be involved in the fight.

On the controversy of whether to lock down the area to avert a possible community spread of the virus, the aspiring legislator opined that a lockdown at this point would be a rushed decision as there was no immediate evidence of community infection and called on residents to adhere to all the precautionary measures to avert a possible lockdown.

Presiding Member for the Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly and Assembly Member for Odumase-South Electoral Area, Benjamin Awule Mensah who received the items on behalf of the assembly men and coordinators expressed his profound gratitude to the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and assured him that the items would be put to good use.

He identified handwashing as a key requisite to tackling the infection and said the donation of the items would therefore augment ongoing efforts to stem the tide including the massive educational and awareness creation.

He however appealed for more support from benevolent persons to sustain the campaign.
