The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the Western Region, Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe has donated disinfectants to Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) zones in the area to combat the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
The disinfectants are; gallons of liquid soap, alcoholic-based hand sanitizers and tissue papers.
The beneficiary CHPS zones include; Apowsika, Ewoku, Dadwen, Kegyina, Subri, Nyamebekyere 32, Agyan, Akango, Bamianko, Gwira Eshiem, Tumentu, Gwira Banso, Tabakrom and Deboalse.
The gesture is to support people who attend these health facilities for medical care to prevent them from contracting and spreading the killer virus.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent Daniel Kaku after the donation at Dadwen CHPS center, Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe revealed why he joined other benevolent Ghanaians distributing disinfectants to some Ghanaians to protect themselves against the Coronavirus.
He said he was informed that the CHPS zones in the Constituency are lacking some disinfectants to protect its staff and patients and that motivated him to respond quickly to their needs.
He emphasized that the Coronavirus is a deadly one which had been causing havoc to the world, adding that there was the need for his people in Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency to be protected.
"In fact, we know the Pandemic called COVID-19 which is causing havoc for the entire world and we have to protect ourselves and that is why I am helping because recently I heard our nurses are facing challenges talking about PPEs so I had to try and get them hand sanitizers, liquid soaps, tissues and Veronica buckets to give to all the 25 CHPS zones in the Constituency", he stated.
He, therefore, promised to extend his gesture to the Axim Government Hospital, the biggest hospital in the area.
He also took the opportunity to educate them about how to wash their hands and how to use the hand sanitizers.
"We are on course educating the people about the virus because prevention is better than cure so we are telling them not to be infected before, we are telling them to practice social distance, we have told them to stay at home, to wash their hands regularly, I have also done this education on the radio", he said.
He concluded by advising the good people of Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency to monitoring radio stations and the media about the Coronavirus, adding that they should quickly report any symptom of the virus to the nearest health facility.
Miss Leticia Asamoah Arthur who is in charge of the Dadwen CHPS center who spoke to GhanaWeb's Daniel Kaku disclosed that since the outbreak of the virus, nobody has come to their aid to support them with any preventive items.
She gave thanks to the NDC Parliamentary candidate for being the first person to provide them with preventive items.
She added that the health facility had mounted Veronica buckets at the entrance and said the Kofi Arko Nokoe's gesture would go a long way to support them.
She prayed to God to bless the NDC Parliamentary candidate abundantly.
"What we will say is that God should bless him because since we heard about the COVID-19, they tell us to wash our hands, we should use hand sanitizers and others but this is the very first time someone has come and given us liquid soaps, sanitizers and tissues so we to mount another Veronica buckets outside the facility so that it will benefit the community, we are very grateful to Honourable for the kind gesture, God should bless him abundantly", he said.
On sensitization, the nurse said they have been educating the community and those that come to the facility for medical care.
"We educating the people and recently we organized a durbar to educate them about the virus, we also go on the Local radio station in this community to educate them, when they also come to our facility we educate them one-on-one and we also have community nurses that go out to educate them, so it is all about education, education, education", she concluded.
