To ensure the safety of his constituents against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), the Member of Parliament for Tempane and Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has, in collaboration with the Tempane District Assembly, made a donation of sanitary equipment to the District Health Directorate.
Mr. Kpemka and the Assembly presented the items to health authorities on Tuesday to help strengthen COVID-19 response measures in the area.
Some of the items included 105 ‘Veronica Buckets’ complete with stands, 12 boxes of sunlight soap, 102 pieces of paper towel, 772 small and big size bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, 83 dustbins and 70 gallons of liquid soap.
Ten thermometer guns have also been procured and an earlier presentation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) was early made to the Health Directorate by the MP.
Addressing Journalists at a short ceremony in front of the offices of the District Assembly to hand over the supplies, Lawyer Kpemka stated that the items were part of measures to ensure the people of the area stayed healthy and free from the viral infection.
“As I indicated, we are not in ordinary times. So we are putting in place these measures from the bottom of our hearts and in good faith to ameliorate the anticipated suffering of our people. We are here to carry out the vision of his excellency president of the republic to ensure that Ghanaians and particularly the people of the Tempane District are healthy”.
Mr. Kpemka, in his speech strongly warned against the politicization of the items with the display of pictures of people seeking to be elected into political offices, adding that such acts will not be taken lightly.
“We’ve given a very stern warning that no one should put pictures of myself or the president or any person aspiring into public office by way of election on any of the items for distribution. It is a very strict instruction that we have given”.
He commended the district health personnel and especially the security agencies for their efforts in ensuring that foreigners do not infiltrate Ghana’s borders to compound the spread. He assured that all needed resources will be provided to ensure their smooth operations.
Lawyer Kpemka made an appeal to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and benevolent individuals
to support the district fight the disease and urged the people to follow all laid down precautionary protocols such as social distancing, hand washing and avoid unhygienic environments.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Paul Azumah Abugri, explaining how the items would be distributed said some would be placed in the nine markets within the district where they would be entrusted in the care of the market leaders.
He continued that other institutions such as the Police Service, Palaces of traditional leaders and the Assemblymen would also be given some of the sanitary equipment.
The MP, DCE and staff of the Assembly and the health directorate after the presentation toured some of the markets and held brief discussions on the disease prevention and demonstrated the process of proper handwashing to the public.
