Correspondence from Volta Region:

As a way of enforcing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive on free water usage for the months of April, May and June, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Johnson Avuletey has opened his gates for residents in the area who do not have taps in their homes to fetch water for domestic use.

Many residents trooped to his house to fetch water with beaming smiles. To them, it was a viable way of helping them save money they had been using to buy water from commercial sellers.

Some members of the community who went to the deputy regional minister’s house showered praises on him and the Akufo Addo government for the great financial relief he brought to them in these difficult times.

The deputy minister also urged other residents with taps in their homes to allow their neighbours who do not have tap in their homes to fetch water for whatever useful purpose they need it for.

In a televised address to the nation on the April 5, President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declared that government will absorb water bills for Ghanaians for the months of April, May and June.

This and other interventions are to be enjoyed by Ghanaians in this difficult time as the nation battles the deadly COVID-19 pandemic which has since claimed the lives of more than 83,000 persons globally.

President Akufo Addo’s move was welcomed with mixed reactions from Ghanaians as some demanded he should make electricity free instead of the water.
