The Western Regional National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, Church of Pentecost, Takoradi Branch is educating the public on the dangers of the COVID 19 pandemic and possible solutions.
The Managing Director for Vivo Energy Ghana Limited, Madam Juanita Boakye Danquah in her presentation said as part of their interventions to fight the COVID -19, the company decided to equip the NCCE in its bid to educate the citizenry on the virus so that they would be able to inform the masses across the region.
In this regard, she said the company agreed to provide, 50 litres of fuel each to the six vehicles belonging to the Commission for two weeks to be used for the education of the public.
Apostle J.K Assabil, the Apostle for the Takoradi Branch of the Church of Pentecost also on behalf of the church handed over to the NCCE the church's evangelism van, bearing the cost of fuel for the vehicle throughout the exercise.
The Acting Regional Director for the NCCE Mr Justice Yaw Arhin in an interview with GNA, said their core mandate was to educate the citizenry on constitutional matters and issues concerning the state, but that in the wake of COVID-19, which was claiming many lives in the world, the Commission had to undertake the necessary action to educate the public on the precautionary measures.
He said the public education was focused on regular hand washing hands with soap under running water, using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, avoid the touching of nose, mouth and eyes and ensure social distancing.
Mr Arhin explained that the activity which commenced on 25th of March, 2020 would end on 23rd April, 2020 and stressed that the commission had five Pick- ups and a Nissan patrol vehicle that would be used for the education, but fueling, which was a hindrance, was taken care of by Vivo Energy Ghana Limited for two weeks, with the church of Pentecost also supporting the education with their evangelism van.
He said a vehicle each was allocated to Wassa East district (Daboase), STMA, Jomoro, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Amenfi West, (Assankraguaa) districts and the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC).
Mr Arhin said they had so far covered 11 out of the 14 districts in the Western Region.
The Acting Regional Director, thanked the two institutions for the interventions, noting that the education had so far been successful as people heeded to the education and putting them into practice.
