The Flagbearer Hopeful on the ticket of the People's National Convention (PNC) Samson Asaki Awingobit, on Friday the 10th of April 2020, distributed food items to hundreds of residents in and around Zenu a suburb of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, as the Coronavirus lockdown continues.
The donation which was nearly marred by the huge turnout of residents who threw out caution to observe the social distance directive saw residents mainly the aged and the less privileged going home with bags of uncooked rice, beans, gari and millet.
The donation forms part of an initiative undertaken by Mr Samson Asaki Awingobit to support the government's social intervention program aimed at alleviating the suffering brought upon the masses by the COVID-19 lockdown.
Speaking to the press after the donation, Samson Asaki Awingobit said, he was motivated by the support from corporate agencies towards augmenting governments' effort in helping the vulnerable within this period.
He said the donation will continue in the coming days, due to the unanticipated turnout, which shows clearly that the masses are in dire need of such support.
He called on government and private entities supporting the masses amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, to rather give out dry food in replacement of the hot meals, since one cannot guarantee the conditions under which these hot foods are cooked.
