Counsel youth to refrain from violent acts in election 2012 – Zongo chiefs told

Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister has urged chiefs and religious leaders in Zongo communities to counsel their youth to refrain from violent behaviors in order to make the forthcoming general elections the most peaceful one in Ghana’s history.

He said the youth especially those living in the Zongo communities were often used by people especially politicians to cause mayhem in order to achieve their selfish individual ambitions.

Alhaji Sulemana who made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the chiefs and people of the Zongo community in Wa urged the youth not to allow themselves to be influenced by money.

He advised them to adopt a strategy to name and shame any individual or group of persons who would want to use them to perpetrate violence in the impending elections.

He noted that the election could only be peaceful if the youth said no to violence and politicians stopped making unguided statements.

The Minster who was the immediate former Ambassador to Egypt appealed to the media not to give air time to people who have no message either than trading insults at their opponents.

The Regional Minister also urged the people to come out in their numbers to participate in the biometric voter registration system which would start later this month to enable them vote for their preferred candidates.

The people pledged their support for the Minister and appealed to him to take measures to improve on the drainage system in the area.

They commended the government for the massive educational infrastructure expansion across public schools including Islamic Schools across the country.

They urged the government not to be distracted by opposition criticisms but continue to remain focus in the execution of the “Better Ghana Agenda” in order to improve on the living conditions of the people.
