Couple construct kindergarten block for Agbenorxoe

Agbenorxoe (V/R), May 18, GNA-The United States of America Ambassador in Ghana, Ms. Pamela Bridgewater on Saturday inaugurated an ultra modern kindergarten block for the people of Agbenorxoe near Kpando.

The over 14,000 Ghana Cedis facility, comprising a computer room, store, library and an office was built by the community with support from a couple at the United States Embassy in Accra.

Mr. and Mrs David Bonnardeaux solicited 8,000 Ghana Cedis for the project from relations and friends abroad to complete the project. They also presented a computer to the school, 150 new school uniforms to pupils with many teaching and learning aids. The couple also negotiated with TIGO, a Telecommunication service provider to connect electricity to the school.

In an address, Ms. Bridgwater commended the couple for the initiative and said it had boosted Ghana-America relations. She underscored the importance of education to the socio-economic development of the country and urged the community to ensure that their children were in school.

Mr. Bonnardeaux said the decision to help the community came after the community's consistent application to source financial support from the US Embassy failed. He said as workers at the Embassy, he and the wife were moved by the condition under which children of the community were learning and decided to take the application to relations and friends for support. Mr. Bonnardeaux praised the community for their determination and communal spirit and expressed the hope that the facility would accommodate more children and offer child friendly environment to promote education in the area. Mr. Emmanuel Keteku, Kpandu District Director of Education urged the community to ensure that their girl-children were enrolled in the school. He advised Parent-Teacher Association of the school to do all within their reach to ensure that children were retained in the school. Mr. Thomas Adjadeh, Vice Chairman of the Agbenorxoe Youth Association expressed gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Bonnardeaux for the support and promised that the facility would be put to good use. He said the old kindergarten block, which was built 50 years ago would be re-built as a vocational centre and appealed to stakeholders and benevolent organizations to assist the community to achieve that aim.
