Sunyani, Sept. 10, GNA - The Sunyani Circuit Court presided over by Mr Kofi Debrah on Tuesday ordered Nana Kofi Amoah II, Bemuhene of Odumase, near Sunyani, to sign a bond of good behaviour for 12 months or in default go to jail for two years.

The court found the chief guilty of slapping a 13-year-old boy rendering him deaf.

The court also ordered the chief to pay two million cedis to offset the boy's medical bill. He is also to take the victim to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for a medical certification or face a civil action from the victim.

Nana Amoah earlier pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing harm and was granted five million cedis bail with a surety.

He was, however, committed by the court but sentence was reserved for him to reverse a curse he invoked on the boy, Hayford Agyeman that he would die within 25 years.

The facts of the case as presented by Police Inspector Satina Aboagye, Prosecutor, were that the accused and the victim's family lived in the same vicinity.

Inspector Aboagye said in July 2002, the victim and his friends allegedly teased the chief's son that he had defiled a certain girl. She said the chief accosted the victim among his friends and slapped him resulting in his deafness. The Chief then invoked a curse on the boy that he would die within 25 years for being slapped by him as a Chief, she said. The Police Inspector said the victim was rushed to hospital and a medical report on him revealed a discharge from the ear.
