Court grants accused persons bail

Mampong (Ash), Oct 15, GNA - Two brothers, Isaac Opoku, a cornmiller and Elijah Boateng, a taxi driver, standing trial for the murder of Rose Amankwah, wife of Opoku, were last Friday granted 10 million cedis bail each by the Asante-Mampong district court. Their pleas were not taken and they will re-appear on November 11. The court, on September 22, granted bail to two other persons, Adwoa Konadu, sister of the two accused persons and Madam Abena Konadu, mother of the three persons, Opoku, Boateng and Adwoa Konadu for complicity in the case.

Asking for bail, Mr K.C. Sarpong, counsel for Opoku and Boateng, said the post-mortem examination report exonerated his clients from being responsible for the death of Amankwah.

The post-mortem performed by Dr Jude Annan of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), indicated that the deceased died out of natural causes.

Rose Amankwah, the deceased, who hailed from Asante-Mampong was said to have had a tussle with her husband when she tried to restrain him from going out with his girl-friend on September 2, this year. Opoku was said to have given her a thrashing until she fell into a coma and then locked her up in his room and left with his girl-friend.

Madam Abena Konadu who overhead the deceased screaming in her husband's room, forced open the door and found her lying in the room and with the assistance of her son, Boateng rushed her to KATH where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
