Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Cape Coast, Mrs. Priscilla Arhin Korankye, has advised residents in the area to cultivate the habit of cleanliness in order to get the tourist hub of filth and diseases.
According to her, there is the need to uphold the National Sanitation Day (NSD) since it has been of great help in keeping the area tidy and purging it off diseases
“The NSD exercise has been of great help to the metropolis because due to it, cholera cases at our health facilities have been negative,” she hinted.
“But because we have all relaxed, we are about to tell a different story now,” she added.
The MCE gave the advice during the first meeting of the second session of the seventh (7th) assembly last week in Cape Coast.
She admonished the Assembly members not to wait for directives from the Assembly before organising their communities to observe the day, but keep reminding them to cultivate the habit of cleanliness.
Mrs. Arhin Korankye indicated that the educational sector has seen tremendous infrastructural development in the metropolis since it is the sector with the highest number of projects being undertaken by the Assembly.
“Out of the 42 projects being implemented, the educational sector has 13 out
of which seven have been completed and handed over whilst six were on-going and at various stages of completion,” she stated.
She commended the Metro Education Directorate and teachers in the area for working hard to improve individual performances in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
On health, she indicated that six CHPS compound facilities have been constructed with three being completed and handed over while the other three are soon to be completed.
Mrs. Arhin Korankye revealed that GH? 70,200.00 has been disbursed from the Disability Common Fund Account to the various individuals and organisations for their activities by the fund management committee as in September this year while GH? 257,990.00 has also been disbursed in five tranches to 679 households under the LEAP programme.
She further revealed that the Kotokuraba and Abura Markets will soon be handed over to the Assembly to make economic activities in the metropolis vibrant.
The MCE announced that the Assembly was able to mobilise GH ?1,226,174.20 by the close of September this year out of the estimated figure of GH? 2,074,536.96, representing 59.11% as compared to 53.3% last year.
She charged the Assembly members to preach peace to their electorate in order to have a peaceful and violent-free election.
