DANID to Support AOB District to improve water and sanitation

Breman Asikuma (C/R), April 26, GNA - Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region has been selected to benefit from a package of 1.7 billion cedis from Danida to improve sanitation and water activities in the area.

Mr Emmanuel Adjei Domson, the District Chief Executive announced this at the third ordinary meeting of the third session of the fourth assembly, held at Breman Asikuma last week.

He said the package would be used to provide 18 boreholes and six institutional latrines this year.

He entreated the assembly members from the beneficiary communities to educate their electorates, to work hard to contribute their quota for the successful implementation of the project.

Mr Domson, disclosed that some Israelis and Ghanaians investors have expressed their wish to go into partnership with the district assembly to train the youth in agriculture, set up factories for processing of farm produce, establish gari factory, processing of starch and bio-diesel.

He drew the attention of members of the house on the decision by the assembly in consultation with the district security committee, not to organise any public function at Odoben, due to chieftaincy dispute and the continuous disruption of functions there, until peace prevailed and to prevent insecurity and loss of innocent lives. He stated further that, the Odoben town for the first time in over 49 years have not been participating in the Independence Anniversary celebration of Ghana, of which this years zonal parade of school children was disrupted by some youth in the town. Nana Kweku Adu-Twum II, the presiding member commended the assembly members for their support, sacrifices, encouragement and co-operation to move the district forward.

Nana Twum II said a mechanism should be adopted to ensure that poverty alleviation loans were retrieved in good time, since the recovery rate was very low.

He welcomed the new criteria prescribed to disburse the P.A.F, that future beneficiaries would see the loan, as a revolving fund, payable with interest and not gratis.
