Cape Coast, December 17, GNA- The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) on Friday provided 64 motor bikes valued at 1.92 billion cedis for distribution to district water and sanitation teams and environmental health assistants in the Central Region.
The bikes, which are part of a capacity building support for district-based water and sanitation projects in the region, were provided through the regional directorate of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CSWA) and handed over to the regional coordinating council for distribution to the districts.
DANIDA is providing a 60-million dollar assistance to support water and sanitation projects in four regions in the country including the Central region.
Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Central Regional Minister who received the keys to the motorbikes, expressed gratitude to the Danish government for its assistance and described the provision of the vehicles, as "another gesture" by DANIDA in pursuance of its objective to enhance water supply and sanitation in the region.
He said the Cape Coast municipal assembly would receive four of the bikes while the remaining 12 districts would be given five each, two for the water and sanitation teams and three for the environmental health assistants.
Mr Edumadze said additional bikes would be provided next year to ensure that all members of the water and sanitation teams got the bikes to facilitate their work.
Mr Francis Awindago, the regional director of the CWSA, said DANIDA has provided 47 million cedis for each district to buy computers and other office equipment and for the maintenance of the bikes.
