New Edubiase (Ash), Aug. 26, GNA - The Health Sector Support Office of DANIDA on Thursday presented 10 bicycles valued at seven million cedis to field workers of the Adansi East Health Insurance Scheme. The bicycles are to enable the workers get to remote an inaccessible parts of the district to collect premiums for the scheme. Presenting the bicycles at New Edubiase, Mr Jacob K. Addai, Programme Manager of the District Scheme, said as at December 31, 2003, 3,070 had been registered for the scheme.
He said 48 people out of the registered number had benefited from the scheme as at June this year, with the highest payment of 1.5 million cedis for an operation carried out on a beneficiary and the least payment of 265,000 for another beneficiary.
Mr Addai commended DANIDA for ensuring the smooth operation of the scheme and it had spent about 326 million cedis on the scheme since its establishment four years ago.
He said field workers who did not benefit from the donation would later be provided with bicycles.
Mr Ben K Appiah, Programme Co-ordinator of the scheme, urged the field workers to maintain the bicycles regularly so that they could last long.
He urged the workers to educate the people on the benefits of joining the scheme to inspire them to register as members.
