...IN THE TOLON KUMBUNGA DISTRICT

Assembly resources are on the spending spree by the District Chief Executive and the District Coordinating Director in the Tolon Kumbunga District in the Northern Region.

Assembly resources being wasted include EU Funds, SIF funds, HIPC etc.

This came to light in statement released by some concerned elected members of the District at the Kumbunga secondary school recently.

According to the release the DCE and the DCD, Mr. Opoku Nkansah have caused blunders in the Assembly that bordered on criminal act.

"The current impasse in the Assembly is due to the recalcitrant and arrogant attitude of the DCE.DCD not to abide by the earlier decision of the presiding membership coming from Kumbungu Constituency.

The release further noted that ever since Mr. Opoku Nkansah became the DCD, he has shown his political party colours openly to the detriment of the Assembly.

It is, therefore, against this background that concerned elected members on the Assembly have declared that for peace and unity to prevail for development in the District, the balance factor should remain and be adhered to and that no amount of intimidation, victimization or harassment or outside force be it political, traditional or religions can convince them to renegade on their stand.

In another development, the Regent of Tolon, Major Sulemana Abubakas has decried the provision in the constitution banning chiefs from participating in active politics.

He said this is a statement at Tolon recently when he brought down bicycles, umbrellas and motorbikes from Accra to woo the electorate in the Northern Region for them to vote for the ruling NPP government.

At a meeting with some NDC branch executives in Dimabi, Yipelga and Dabogshie, Major Abubakar urged them to allow him to bring in the items but they refused and resented the idea.

As a result, the Regent of Tolon has been going round and threatening NDC supporters in Tolon and the surrounding villages.

No doubt this attitude has brought in its wake a sharp division between him and his nephew, Mr. Umar Abdul Razak, NDC parliamentary candidate for Tolon constituency.
