DCE advises communities to be patient in terms of development

Ejisu (Ash), July 19, GNA- Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, has expressed worry about the excessive demands from some communities on the assembly to provide them with projects against the limited resources of the assembly.

He said at the close of every year, the assembly met to prepare its development budget based upon funds from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), European Union (EU), HIPC fund and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and other donor support. He said some communities and assembly members kept on requesting for projects and assistance, knowing too well that we did not have enough funds meet extra expenditure.

Mr Afrifa was addressing the first session of the District Assembly at Ejisu at the weekend.

He told the house that this year, the assembly would go strictly according to the approved budget.

The DCE therefore pleaded with the assembly members to bear with him and give him the necessary encouragement, support and co-operation to implement all the projects and programmes for 2004.

Mr Afrifa regretted that sanitation, which was the pivot on which the health of the people revolved was in a bad state in the district, saying that, the environment is degraded while unauthorised structures were becoming obstacles to orderly development.

He announced that an amount of 300 million cedis was to be used to clear refuse that could be found in the major towns in the district. The DCE said waste disposal had assumed an alarming and complex nature, which called for collective efforts from all communities.
