Hiawu (Ash), Oct. 6, GNA - Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagye District Chief Executive has made a passionate appeal to striking teachers to end their strike action in the interest of the pupils.

He said the government acknowledged the importance of teachers in the society and the efforts they put in to teach the children and therefore, assured them of government's determination to provide them with better service conditions.

Mr Ofori-Donkor made the appeal during his familiarization visit to some communities during which, he realized that all the schools had closed down.

He reminded teachers that their action would affect not only the children, but also the nation in the long run and therefore, urged them to reconsider their action and return to the classroom. The DCE distributed exercise books to pupils he met in some of the schools in the district without teachers. He announced that, the assembly will construct eight boreholes for Hiawu-Besease before the end of the year. This year, Mr Ofori-Donkor said 15 communities in the district would be linked to the national electricity grid, while 50 others will be provided with solar power.

He called for unity, so as to enable the assembly to provide them with social amenities.

Nana Baffour Awuah, Hiawuhene appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Sepaase-Ntensere road for easy evacuation of cocoa and foodstuffs to the urban and marketing centres and also asked for the provision of potable water for the community.
