The Birim North District Chief Executive, Mr Remond Nana Damptey has assured residents in the district of his administration’s commitment to bring more developments to the district.
He said, the Assembly had initiated numerous projects including the construction of a market with 48 market sheds and rehabilitation of 10 lockable stores at Ntronang and the construction of 32 additional lockable stores under the phase one of the New Abirem market construction.
Others are the construction of a health centre at Akoase, health centre at Pankese, which the Assembly is determined to complete and handover to the District Health Directorate by the third quarter of this year.
Mr Damptey gave the assurance when he addressed the first Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Sixth Assembly of the Birim North District Assembly at New Abirem.
He said, the Assembly will continue to invest and improve the standard of education in the district.
He said the Assembly had planned to increase school infrastructure, teacher’s quarters, provision of furniture as well as teaching and learning materials.
The DCE said, over 100 students have received Gh¢ 89,321.60 financial support and scholarships from the Assembly as a way of helping and motivating the serious students in the district.
He said the beneficiary schools under the school feeding programme, had increased from 14 to 26 schools since he assumed office in 2017.
He said 2018 witnessed the reshaping of most of the feeder roads in the district, adding that, efforts are being made to reconstruct the New Abirem to Nkawkaw road.
Mr Damptey commended the efforts of the Member of Parliament for New Abirem for assisting in hooking 21 communities in the district to the national grid.
He said the number of beneficiaries under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme had moved from 44 to 117 and a total of Gh¢ 27,418.00 was paid to the beneficiaries.
Again, a total of Gh¢ 224,980.02 was spent on education, health and on skill training and business support for 431 Persons with Disability (PWD’s) in the district.
The DCE said the Assembly intended to put in more efforts to improve the health, environment, water and sanitation of the people, improve the local economy as well as revenue mobilization.
