Twifo Praso, Sept 27, GNA - Mr Yaw Agyeibi-Kessie, the Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira District Chief Executive, has denied rumours that the cancellation of school fees in basic schools was a temporal measure and covered just one year.

He also denied that non-contributors of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) were to be given preferential treatment at the hospitals over contributors of the scheme because they paid spot cash for their treatment.

Mr Agyeibi-Kessie, who was addressing a day's workshop organised at Twifo-Praso at the weekend, said the cancellation of the fees was to encourage more parents to send their children to school to help reduce poverty in line with the education reform programme.

The workshop, sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, was to sensitise women about NEPAD and took them through topics like ''political, economic and social dimensions of NEPAD, the introduction of NEPAD the education reform programme.''

Mrs Gifty Ohene Konadu, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, appealed to women to be proactive and to assist in explaining NEPAD in the district. She appealed to the women to honour their tax obligations as well as register their businesses to enable them get financial assistance.
