Mr Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, the Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), has handed over sites to contractors for the construction of three-unit classroom blocks in the Gorigor and Zorkor-Kanga communities in the District.
He said the classrooms when completed would serve as a Junior High School (JHS) to the people of Gorigor community, while the other one would replace an existing Primary School in the Zorkor-Kanga community which has operated under a pavilion for several years.
Mr Ayinbisa at a brief ceremony at Gorigor to hand over the two sites said the projects were funded from the second tranche of the “one-million dollar per constituency” funds totaling GHC 500,000.00 which was disbursed to the District from the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives.
He said each classroom block would comprise a headteacher’s office, staff common room and a store, and would be completed within four months at an estimated value of about GHC 190,000.00.
Mr Ayinbisa said the package included the construction of six boreholes with hand-fitted pumps in some selected communities including Kudorogor, Feo-Asabre, Soe-Sanabisi and Beo, also estimated to value about GHC 120,000.00.
He said the projects were “dear to government” and charged the contractors to deliver quality projects within the stipulated time frame.
The DCE said the Bongo Constituency earlier received the first tranche of GHC 500,000.00 for the construction and installation of solar-powered mechanized water supply systems, a warehouse at Bogrigor and modern toilet facilities among others.
Mr Ayinbisa said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has fulfilled his pledge in just two years of his administration, and the results were visible for all to see.
He commended the chief and people of Gorigor and the Tindanas (custodians of land) for freely releasing land for the projects and appealed to other communities to emulate the gesture to facilitate development in the District.
Mr Anafo Abowine, Assembly Member for the Gorigor Electoral Area, said the community has been without JHS for over 20 years and this has led to pupils walking about five kilometers daily to Bongo, the district capital and Atampiisi for basic education.
