DCE inaugurates MHIS Board or Directors

Jema, (B/A) June 24, GNA - A 14-member Board of Directors charged with the responsibility of promoting the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) in the Kintampo South District of Brong Ahafo region has been inaugurated by the District Chief Executive of the area Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour at Jema.

Mr. Adjei-Duffour said the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) places a lot of emphasis on the promotion of the health of the people towards the manpower development and the economic productivity of the state and that it was upon that necessity that the health insurance scheme has been introduced and to cater for the health needs of all people.

He therefore called on the people to avail themselves of such a laudable scheme and register their families under the scheme to secure their health as well as improve upon their lifestyles. The Chief Executive was grateful to the members of the board for offering themselves to provide selfless services towards the growth of the mutual health insurance scheme in the district and urged them to carefully study the problems and challenges that face the scheme and suggest solutions that would move it forward and to enhance the development of the district.

Mr. Adjei-Duffour disclosed that the district assembly would offer the necessary support towards the growth of the scheme and ensure that it is also successfully implemented in the communities in the district.

The Manager of the Scheme, Mr. Augustine Owusu Bediako commended the district assembly for providing a cash amount of 35 million cedis in support of the operations of the scheme and described the money as being the lifeline of the scheme since it started to operate in the area. Mr. Bediako also said the assembly has managed to furnish the office of scheme with logistics such as two computers, a photocopier, a laminating machine, paper cutter, two long tables, 10 office chairs and a digital camera.

He appreciated the efforts of the district assembly to pay the allowances of the five temporary staff of the scheme since their appointment in March this year.

Mr. Bediako pleaded with the National Health Insurance Council to consider supplying means of transport such a motor-bikes and bicycles in addition to the proposed pick-up vehicles arranged for the district assemblies in order to facilitate the movements of the staff of the scheme to the very deprived areas of the districts. The membership of the Kintampo South District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme Board of Directors include Nana Adubofour Gyan, Nkosoahene Jema, Mr. Opoku Donyina, Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr. Augustine Owusu Bediako, Mrs. Grace Kadaui Anyadi, Nana Baffo Charles, Mr. Anthony Kuu-Inle, Mr Mohammed Owusu-Banie, Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Kontor, Mr. Andrew Appiagyei, and Mr Joseph Adjei-Wiafe. Mr. Pius Kugblenu, Kintampo District Magistrate, who officially swore them into office expressed the hope they would work hard for the success of the insurance scheme in the area. 24 June 06
