DCE lauds mid-year review workshop

Yendi (N/R), July 8, GNA - Mr Mohammad Habib Tijani, Yendi District Chief Executive has lauded the district's mid-year review workshop, saying it had afforded the participant the opportunity to re-strategise to meet current demands.

He said the initiative had become necessary since it sought to measure performance, enhance monitoring and evaluate activities relating to strategies.

Mr Tijani was addressing a two-day review workshop of departments and donor agencies in the Yendi District at Yendi. The workshop, which was sponsored by the UNICEF, was at the instance of the Yendi District Assembly.

The participants were taken through topics such as: "food security", "water and sanitation" and "community action plan", among other issues. Mr Tijani noted that UNICEF had organized a series of workshops for some staff of the Assembly to enhance their performance in project identification, planning and implementation.

He commended donor agencies for their respective roles in ensuring the return of peace and security in the area.

Mr. Mohammed Shaibu, the District Planning Officer said it was becoming increasingly clear that the integrated community-based development process had assumed a greater role of bringing all development partners in the district to integrate their activities to address societal problems and needs.

Mr Shani Mahama, Team Leader of Yendi District Water and Sanitation said plans were far advanced to increase the number of collection points of solid waste from 15 to 20 to improve accessibility and enhance the sanitation situation in the area.
