Adaklu-Kodzobi (VR), Oct. 10, GNA - Mr Mawuli Kwame Dabi, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the newly created Adaklu-Anyigbe District in the Volta Region at the weekend advised those sowing seeds of disunity in the new district to stop, since such actions retard progress and development. He, therefore, called on citizens of the three traditional areas forming the district; Adaklu, Kpetoe and Ziope to come together for the development of the district.
Mr Dabi was speaking at a grand durbar of chiefs and people of Adaklu Kodzobi to climax their annual "Bliza" (Corn Festival). He said the government was committed to the development of every part of the country and needed peace and unity among the populace to achieve this objective. The DCE informed the people that the government had plans to build a modern hospital for the district and also improve the road network and school infrastructure.
Mrs Joycelyn Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area praised the people for celebrating the festival in spite of threats from some people in the area. The MP expressed satisfaction at the number of development projects the community was undertaking, which included an electrification project. She said she would use part of her MP's common fund to assist brilliant but needy pupils in the area and appealed to parents to send their children to school.
Mrs Azumah-Mensah advised women to form co-operatives groups to enable them benefit from government assistance to improve their businesses.
Togbe Afele, Chief of Ho, Hliha, who represented Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli said Ghanaians were one people, so they must learn to leave in peace. Mr Steve Akorli, the immediate past MP for the area, who chaired the function, said character assassination was on the increase in the area and appealed to all well-meaning citizens of the area to help uproot this. In a welcome address, Togbe Samuel Deh, Regent of Kodzobi said the decision of his people to join the new district should not be seen as a betrayal of the Adaklus but a bridge of unity in the area. ".... Let us forget the past and forge ahead in unity for posterity's sake," he stated.
An appeal for funds in aid of the community's electrification project yielded 27 million cedis with the DCE donating 12 million cedis on behalf of the district, while the MP gave 5 million cedis. Kodzobi is the only Adaklu community cooperating with the Adaklu-Anyigbe District Assembly, whose choice of Kpetoe as district capital has incurred the displeasure of the Adaklu Traditional Area. The Adaklu Traditional Council has barred all Assembly Members in the area from attending assembly meetings at Kpetoe.
