DCE presents books to mark NCCE Citizenship Week

Alhaji Sa-Rhack Nartey, the Ningo Prampram District Chief Executive (DCE) has distributed books to 45 basic schools in the area as part of the celebration of the Citizenship Week.

The exercise and graph books were donated by the Ghana Education Service to be circulated among the schools.

The Citizenship Week, a flagship programme instituted by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in 2001for pupils in the basic schools across the country, is to interact with those in leadership positions and to learn some virtues from them as role models and mentors.

Presenting some of the books at Ahwiam D/A Junior High School (JHS) and Mangotsonya D/A JSH, Alhaji Nartey advised the pupils to take their lessons seriously and to reduce their time in watching television for them to achieve their future aims.

He told them that indiscipline is the bane of democracy and that they should be respectful to their teachers, older persons and their parents and always think of the country first before anything else.

Mr Ebenezer Cudjoe, a National Disaster Management Organisation staff of at the District advised the pupils to stay away from early sex to avoid teenage pregnancy and dropping out of school.

He admonished them to desist from tobacco smoking, alcoholism, stealing and other vices that would destroy their future.

Madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, the District Director of the NCCE said the celebration of Citizenship Week was a rebrand of the NCCE’s activities of the annual Constitution Week since 2012.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “A Disciplined Ghana,” a sub-theme of “My Ghana the Power of One,” for the 2016 NCCE year of activities.

Mr Takyi Emmanuel Kwesi, the Head Teacher of the Mangotsonya D/A JSH, expressed gratitude to the DCE for the presentation of the books and the celebration of the Citizenship Week.

He said the celebration would go a long way in inculcate discipline and good democratic values in the pupils in their early stages in school for them to become responsible leaders in future.

As part of the celebration posters were presented to the schools with the inscription including “Put the interest of Ghana First,” “Help and respect the rights of Persons with Disability in the society,” “Respect the National Symbols,” “Protect and Safeguard the Environment For Future Generations,” and “Take part in cleanup exercise to help Ghana clean."
